Accessing digital channels remotely video transcript

So perhaps the first obvious question is what does the customer need to do to ensure their users can access our online channels either remotely or from home. So, the answer to that is to make sure the customer has access to the internet service from their remote or home working sites.

So each user will either need to take home their work laptop or make sure that they can access online channels through an internet connection on their home PC or Laptop and the way to enable that is to make sure first and foremost that they have access to the security devices they will need to access channels online. So that’s either the biometric reader or the smart card reader and the smart card itself and they can have spare access to these devices by carrying spare ones with them or making sure they have an alternative at home.

We will talk later about the actual card or sim card because you can’t have separate copies of those but I will cover that in a later question.

Then to make sure these devices work they will need to make sure the software drivers are installed on their home PC or Laptop or as I say, take home their work laptop if the software is already installed on that so they can make sure they can continue to work from home.

The key really is having internet access and the drivers enabled on their device to ensure they can use the card reader or biometric device to access iPortal or Barclays.Net.

The next question that often gets asked is do I need a security device at home as well as in the office and the answer to that is well, no you can carry them, they are portable but it may be prudent to have a second device available at home so you know you have always got it to hand in a remote working situation.

The next question that often gets asked is can the user have a backup sim or card. Now obviously the physical device relies on a sim in the case of the biometric reader or a physical card in the case of the smart card reader to ensure the user has secure access to the service and the answer is no, you must only have one of these things to avoid a user having duel access when they should only have sole access and could be preparing payments potentially fraudulently.

So yes, they can have a second device to read the sim or read the card but they must not have a second sim or card for the purposes of maintaining that security access and the user segregation of duties.

Another question that then gets asked is what if all companies users have to have access use these systems to work from home? This is possible if the company employs applications like Citrix that can allow for remote access to the system. They need only to ensure that they configure the service to accept remote working in that basis.

Now we of course can help to a degree in answering some of these questions and certainly the Gadbrook help desk will attempt to answer where they can, but in reality that is down to the customer own IT department to configure Citrix in such a way that it allows the card and readers to be recognised from a remote machine using a Citrix application.

And finally customers often ask where they can get help and support in installing the hardware or security software and the answer is obviously that we have our site available in terms of the intranet and internet to both help you and the client access this information and that page will now appear on the screen to help you access it.
